Tourists come just to walk our pier and swim off our beach.

We used to have the largest inland fishing fleet in the world but, with fish stocks so low, most of the fleet has left.

Ruakuri Reserve entrance.
Waitomo Caves, New Zealand

The Ruakuri Reserve is an area of native bush that leads to several caves. At night, glow worms can clearly be seen and there is also a colony of bats living there.

Waitomo Caves School students assist the New Zealand  Department of Conservation by gathering data on the bat monitoring project.
