Sustaining Tourism is our challenge.

But our areas are sooooo exciting!!

There is so much to do: hiking, camping, rock climbing, sightseeing, and horseback riding, too!! There are adventure activities offered in all our three areas.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
HIKING - Hiking is a lot of fun in the anywhere, in the mountains around Waitomo camping in WaitomoCaves or along the beaches of Long Point or even in the mountains of West Virginia!! There are all sorts of exciting trails to walk through and lots of beautiful scenery to see. You can't camp over night on Long Point, except for the provincial park camp grounds, but the hiking is wonderful.
CAMPING- Camping is really relaxing and tourists love to get out into the fresh air of the mountains or lake!! We have great scenery in our areas to make your camping that much better. When you get up in the morning and see the sky, you'll feel like you're in heaven!! Well, it is "Almost Heaven" This camper van is parked at Waitomo and view to the west looks across the Waitomo Domain.
ROCK CLIMBING- Rock climbing in West Virginia is mainly for the pros. It is really hard if you've never done it before. After huffing and puffing your way to the top, you will get the reward of some of the best scenic views anywhere. Along Lake Erie, we get to bank climb. They are sand banks around our bay and tourists like to visit our Sand Hills for a adventure of sand hill climbing. A short trip from Waitomo, we have Castle Rock or you can continue to Rotorua, the culture capital of New Zealand, to experience rock climbing.
SIGHTSEEING - If you just like plain sightseeing, then all three areas will entice you. The national and state parks (Grandview National, Babcock State Park, Twin Falls Park, Pipestem State Park) of West Virginia are just amazing, as are the hills of the Ruakuri Reserve of North Island and the deserted beaches and sand doons of Long Point.
There are wonderful guides at Pipestem State Park for people who do not know how to horseback and they lead you through the numerous trails in the park so you can see firsthand the beautiful scenery. Waitomo has some of the best horseback riding area. Around Port Dover we have riding stables with trail rides and horse back riding lessons. For the adventurous, there are 30 kms. of Long Point waiting.
WILDLIFE - There are numerous native animals that can be seen in the state, provincial and national parks. Especially plentiful are wild turkeys, white tailed deer, rabbits, and squirrels. The Otorohanga Kiwi house has a selection of New Zealand native birds and reptiles. A family outing to Waitomo's Altura Park will find you in the midst of a minagerie of animals ranging from bison and llama to floppy eared rabbits.
