line up for a grand parade line back into the harbour. Crowds gather along the shore and many tugs are full of guests. Every body waves and cheers as the announcer describes each tug. Our Canada Day parade down Main Street is huge and second to none.. It starts at the high school and travel all the way down Main Street then back up St.George Street to the high school. The Canada parades are a celebration for Canada's birthday. Drum Corps like the Simcoe United Alumni and Port Dover Brassmen entertain the huge crowds. Floats of all kinds, from companies large and small strut their stuff in the parade. Some give the kids lots of candy and pop sickles too, because it is always nice for this start to summer. They also go downtown to shop in the stores and go in the restaurants which we have plenty of great places to eat. Local specialties include perch and foot long hot dogs. The day is full of events, from soap box derby to a dog show. At night is a fireworks display out over Silver Lake. It is a spectacular event which can be seen for miles.
Dover is a great fishing place. Thousands of fishermen come
to
the perch derby and fish. We have plenty of restaurants like Willie's, the Arbor
and Knechtels and our attractions are the Dover rover and the lighthouse theater.
The Dover rover might stop running around town because it is broken and they
can't afford to fix it. Every year on January 1st there is a polar bear dip.
That is when you jump into freezing cold water.

Friday the 13th is when a lot of bikers come to town. Some even come from as far away as West Virginia. Check out Brandon's Friday 13th page.
We also have a Christmas fest when Santa arrives on a fishing tug at the harbour.
On this same day we have midnight madness, fireworks, community bonfire and
caroling. This is when all the stores are opened until midnight and there are
some great deals for those early Christmas shoppers.
There are lots of lakes all around the world. In Port Dover we have one of the Great Lakes; Lake Erie. You can do lots of fun things in Port Dover and in the lake too.One really fun thing to do in the winter time is the polar bear dip. For the polar bear dip you have to run into the freezing cold water and jump right under. They sometimes have to cut a hole in the ice just to find open water. They have a ladder to help you get out.
Port Dover has a lot of tugboats, fishing, and locally owned restaurants. It is a very nice town. Dover also has a nice beach with warm water. But the beach also has a lot of garbage on it, but the town sends out it's workers to clean it up and they do a good job.
On August 23 we have Dragon boat races at Silver lake. Come to enjoy a day filled with colour, competition and just plain fun. It's a huge race to the finish!
The perch derby is a contest that you have to catch a fish every day to win a prize. They put your name in a bucket and if they pull it out you win. If you are 12 or under you can catch any kind of fish. If you are 13 or over you have to catch a perch. During the Fish Fest we catch lots of fish such as perch. I like to catch fish, but I hate to touch the fish because they seem to be very slimy but they're not really, but I don't like slimy things. Most people who come love our perch, and I like eating them too. Check out our recipe page for preparing perch.
Fish fest is a yearly celebration of Port Dover's commercial fishing heritage.
Fish fest is filled with colour. It has been around for many years. A bunch
of things happen on this day. There is live music, boat parades, fireworks,
cardboard boat races, tug pulls, tote races, contests, refreshments, midway
and much more. It's a beach party and a celebration. Fish fest is located down
at our Harbour front. It is a good money maker for Port Dover, so we can have
good jobs and homes. Fish fest is always on the third weekend of July. There
are thousands of visitors coming to Fish fest to see all of the great stuff!
Summerfest is when there are arts and crafts in Powell Park. This show has been around for 31 years. The sidewalk sales are when all the stores have stands outside the store on the sidewalk. There are some amazing deals to be found. People usually walk downtown so they can shop without going inside. People like to come to Port Dover just to swim in the lake because the lake is a big thing to a lot of people. Most people throw their garbage in the garbage bins. Some people don't care and pollute the lake with their trash. If people pollute the lake the other people won't want to swim in the lake anymore. SO DON'T POLLUTE THE LAKE!

In 2004, Lighthouse Festival Theater will celebrate its 25th Anniversary and the 100th Anniversary of the Old Town Hall building. Although many plans are underway to mark the occasion, perhaps one of the most significant will be the installation of new seating in the theatre. The new seats will provide more support and leg room for patrons while increasing the theatre's capacity by about 40 seats, meaning less disappointment for patrons. Our Lighthouse Theatre needs your help! Take a Seat!
All their performances take place in the historic old town hall. Recent renovations ensure wheelchair accessibility, with a street-level box office, elevator service to the theatre level, and air-conditioned comfort. Group bookings can be arranged at a significant discount.
Port Dover does not close its doors to tourists for
the winter! There is something going on at the theatre "all year 'round". Visit
their Events web site for more information regarding concerts, art gallery exhibits,
fund raisers and shows of all types !
Our school always goes to the theatre for at least one of their many performance. Our local high school even uses the theatre for a couple of it's drama shows.
The more we use it, the more we help sustain our tourism and do it without any harm to our environment. There are only benefiting to our town.
