Caving in West Virginia
Caving has always been
a popular pastime in West Virginia. In the Grandview
National
Park near Beckley, West Virginia, there are some small caves that you can explore.
The caves are short and not completely closed off. They are in the park mainly
to introduce people to spelunking to see if they might like to explore more
caves. The Native American Indians were the first people to discover caves in
the state. Since that time, more than 500 caves have been found and explored
by lots of people.
Lost World Caverns are located near Lewisburg, West Virginia. There is more than a mile of caves to explore. The legend of "Bat Boy" comes from that cave. Usually, the temperature inside a cave is very chilly so you need to make sure you wear warm clothing. Visiting the caves can be a scary experience if you don't like to go underground and not see the sky.
